Dr. Serriere is an associate professor of social studies education in the Division of Education at IUPUC. Dr. Serriere is former elementary classroom teacher who has taught in Italy, India, and in the U.S. She is a leading scholar on elementary social studies and civic engagement with contributions to leading journals in this field such as Social Studies and the Young Learner and Theory and Research in Social Education. In addition to publishing and working alongside classroom teachers, Dr. Serriere serves as a national consultant for PBS kids’ programming for social studies content. She is the co-author of the book, "Civic education in the elementary years: Promoting student engagement in an era of accountability” published by Teachers College Press. Dr. Serriere enjoys engaging future teachers in conversations about teaching for democracy, civic engagement and diversity.
