Women's Studies

If you want to achieve a deeper understanding of gender and its social construction, a minor in women’s studies may be right for you.

You will examine societal norms like gender, race, and class as well as the dynamic, fluid definitions of masculinity and femininity and the gendered institutions that we inhabit.

Minor in Women’s Studies

To minor in women’s studies at IUPUC, you must:

  • Successfully complete 16 credit hours in women’s studies courses with a minimum grade of C in each course.
  • Required courses include W105 Introduction to Women’s Studies, W499 Senior Colloquium in Women’s Studies, and 12 credits in gender studies and/or cross listed classes (i.e., those in the humanities, natural sciences, social sciences, etc.).
  • When you begin your last class for the minor but before you graduate, complete and submit this application form to Natalie Edwards.
  • Complete all credit hours for your major area of study and the bachelor’s degree for that major.

Career Options

Pursuing a minor in women’s studies can be useful if you seek a career in fields that focus on concerns of women, such as business, education, nursing, psychology, or sociology.

This minor is also beneficial if you plan to pursue graduate study and earn a master’s or Ph.D. degree in specialized fields like business, law, or medicine.
