UNDERGRADUATE BUSINESS PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The Indiana University-Purdue University Columbus Undergraduate Program in Business provides opportunities for breadth of education as well as for a reasonable amount of specialization. Consistent with the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) perspective, the school subscribes to the principle that a significant portion of a student's academic program should be in general education subjects, complemented by study in the basic areas of business administration. This assures the planning of balanced study programs while enabling a student with an interest in one or more of the professional areas of business to specialize in those fields.

All undergraduate study programs also include courses that ensure the development of a basic understanding of the principles and practices involved in the management of business firms in the dynamic economic, social, and political environment of the world today.

Common experiences include:
  • Principles of Undergraduate Learning (PUL's)
  • The First Year Experience-Business Learning Community
  • Program themes-leadership, communication, career development, excellence
  • The Integrative Core
  • The Capstone Experience

International Dimension Degree Requirements
In today's global business environment, a fundamental understanding of international business is a necessity.

The Division of Business requires students majoring in business to include 6 credit hours of international study or experience in their program of study in order to meet degree requirements. This is true regardless of the area of concentration. This requirement may be fulfilled in one of the following ways:

  • Foreign Language

  • 6 hours of 200-level or above courses in a language other than English or American Sign Language.
  • International Business and Economics

  • 6 hours from the following list:
    • BUS D301 (3 cr.) International Business Environment
    • BUS D302 (3 cr.) Operation of International Enterprises
    • BUS F494 (3 cr.) International Financial Management
  • Participation in an approved overseas study program.

  • Earn at least 6 credit hours through participation in any approved overseas study program sponsored by Indiana University.
  • International Focus: 6 hours of course work taken from an approved list. See an advisor for information about this option.
