The Indiana University General Studies Degree Program at IUPUC offers the Associate of Arts in General Studies (AA in General Studies) as well as the Bachelor of General Studies (B.G.S.).

Associate of Arts in General Studies (AA in General Studies)

Degree Requirements

Required Credit Hours and Grade Point Averages

  • 60 minimum credit hours required for the degree.
  • 15 minimum Indiana University course credit hours required.
  • 10 minimum credit hours required after admission to the general studies program.
  • 2.0 minimum IU cumulative grade point average and a 2.0 average in all courses completed after admission to the general studies program.

12 credit hours in Sciences and Mathematics
Astronomy

12 credit hours in Social and Behavioral Sciences

Political Science
Psychology
Sociology

Courses must be chosen from two separate academic departments in the above areas and each course must be completed with a minimum grade of C-.

24 credit hours in electives

Students are limited to no more than 15 credit hours in any single academic department.

Within the 60 credit hours required for the Associate of Arts in General Studies degree, each student must demonstrate basic competence in four areas:
  • Written Communication (2 courses)
  • Oral Communication
  • Computer Literacy
  • Quantitative Reasoning
  • Diversity
Courses used to demonstrate competency must be completed with a minimum grade of C.

Bachelor of General Studies (B.G.S.)

Degree Requirements

Required Credit Hours and Grade Point Averages

  • 120 minimum credit hours required for the degree.
  • 30 minimum Indiana University course credit hours required.
  • 20 minimum course credit hours required after admission to the general studies program.
  • 2.0 cumulative IU grade point average and a 2.0 average in all courses completed after admission to the general studies program.

Courses must be chosen from two separate academic departments in the above areas and each course must be completed with a minimum grade of C-.

51 credit hours in electives

A minimum of 30 credit hours at the 300-or 400-level (upper division) is required.

Students are limited to no more than 21 credit hours in any single arts and sciences academic department or 30 credit hours in a professional school

Within the 120 credit hours required for the Bachelor of General Studies degree, each student must demonstrate basic competence in four areas:
