Informatics *
The emerging field of informatics is the study and application of information technology to the
arts, sciences, and professions. Informatics also examines how people and organizations work
with and use information technology. The Bachelor of Science program in Informatics provides
students with a firm grounding in the social and technical aspects of advanced technologies.
In addition, students must complete a cognate area program of study in a field outside of
Informatics. The expanding list of fields includes biology, chemistry, computer science,
computer technology, economics, English and technical communication, geography, health science,
journalism, mechanical engineering, new media, and fine arts.
Special Opportunities
Students complete a year-long senior capstone project in which they will not only further
specialize but learn practical skills, including teamwork.
Careers
Information technology is a growing and changing field, and the study of informatics provides
students with the skills to solve problems and be adaptable. While some of the future job titles
for IT jobs dont even exist yet, some current career options include: creative technologist,
animator, multimedia producer, electronic publisher, hypermedia specialist, internet developer,
interactive trainer, Video-audio editor, webmaster, bioinformaticist, HCI designer, information
