Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET)
Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET) is more than machinery; it is
methods, materials, machinery, and manpower coming together to solve
industrial problems. It is the application of scientific and engineering
principles to questions of product development manufacturing,
manufacturing processes, quality control, materials, fluid power, heat
power, mechanics, design, and cost analysis. Mechanical Engineering
Technology also concerns the generation, transmission, and utilization
of mechanical, thermal, and fluid energy, and the design and production
of tools and machines and their products.
Special Opportunities
The primary goal of the Associate of Science (two year) degree in MET is
to provide all graduates with a solid technical foundation which will
enable them to adapt readily to a wide variety of careers and equip them
with the desire for life-long learning. Students gain hands-on
experience in state-of-the-art labs. MET Professors offer students the
best of both worlds through their years of industrial and instructional
experience.
Careers
MET graduates are job-ready after two-years of full-time study. They
find employment opportunities where they are required to solve
mechanical problems, work with their minds as well as their hands, and
utilize their math and science skills. Graduates of the A.S. program in
MET accept jobs as laboratory technicians, engineering aides, plant
maintenance staff, layout staff, production assistants, and technical
sales staff. With additional experience they can be promoted to
positions such as industrial supervisors, machine and tool designers,
technical buyers, production expediters and cost estimators.
