Student Research

The Office of Student Research funds, promotes, and disseminates the scholarly work and research of IUPUC students.

Mission

The Office of Student Research (OSR) promotes intellectual inquiry and innovation to enrich the educational experiences of students by providing support for research projects that engage them in academic scholarship that contributes in meaningful ways to communities in south central Indiana and beyond. In support of the university's mission, the OSR promotes and assists in the dissemination of scholarly works of students.

Overview

The OSR runs an ongoing program and each year it has 10 x $1,000 grants to award to promising student research projects, which must be conducted with a faculty mentor.

  • Grant applications are reviewed by the OSR board, a panel consisting of faculty representatives from the various academic divisions on campus.
  • Members of the review panel are appointed by IUPUC's associate dean for academic affairs.
  • The OSR board meets twice a year to review the applications: once during the fall semester and once during the spring semester.
  • All funded projects are presented by the students and faculty mentors at the OSR Student Research Exhibition at the end of the academic year.

The vision undergirding the OSR is that students will contribute in meaningful ways to academic and non-academic communities in south central Indiana and beyond. Students must be the principal investigators or play an important equivalent role, and research projects may be conducted in tandem with current coursework or as an independent study.

This past year, the Office of Student Research funded 10 research projects: one in business, two in education, one in liberal arts, two in nursing, and four in science. These projects were featured in a poster session at the Student Research Exhibition on April 23, 2013 from 2:30-4 p.m. in the Columbus Learning Center. More than 100 faculty, staff, students, and community members were in attendance, making the event (and the program) very successful.
