Initiatives

In partnership with the Columbus Area Chamber of Commerce and other chambers throughout the region, the Center for Business & Economic Development (CBED) at IUPUC supports women, minorities, and small business owners in a range of industries—from advanced automotive manufacturing to nonprofit and social service agencies. Support often includes delivering educational resources, programs, and forums in which the start-up challenges that entrepreneurs often experience can be explored and addressed.

Other initiatives in which CBED is engaged focus on international relations for developing new academic partnerships for study-abroad students and general business development.

Business Partnerships

CBED connects businesses throughout south central Indiana with IUPUC faculty and staff experts in subjects like:

  • Business development
  • Finance and accounting
  • Business management and operations
  • Marketing research
  • Health care
  • Applied engineering research
  • Project-based learning
  • Technology
  • Workforce development

Community Development

The CBED team partners with civic groups like the Heritage Fund of Bartholomew County, Columbus Young Professionals, Mill Race Center, and others to deliver programs such as:

  • Speakers series
  • Public forums on international business
  • Scholarships and grants to improve K-12 and higher education attainment
  • Strategic planning
  • Redevelopment of community facilities

Executive Education

CBED also oversees registration, management, and delivery of Office of Executive Education offerings, which include for-credit and non-credit education and training for business owners, executives, managers, and other employees at large and small organizations. Services include:

  • Programming developed to meet unique, industry-specific needs and challenges
  • Open enrollment courses taught on our campus
  • Custom-designed training on topics like advanced manufacturing, hospitality, and tourism taught in your workplace or on our campus
  • Certificate programs on topics like business management, operations, and innovation
  • MBA refresher sessions

Personal & Professional Development

In contast to the executive education portfolio, CBED can develop lifelong learning, personal interest, and professional development courses on:

  • Work-life balance, health, wellness, and stress management
  • Flipping houses, art and architecture appreciation, and financial planning for retirement
  • English as a Second Language (ESL) for success in academic or workplace settings
