Two noncredit management workshops will be offered by the Center for Business and Economic Development (CBED) at Indiana University-Purdue University Columbus (IUPUC) on Friday, July 18.

The three-hour, back-to-back programs, with a lunch break between them, are appropriate for business executives, human resource specialists, front-line managers, and team leaders in a variety of workplace settings, including large manufacturing enterprises, small and mid-sized businesses, municipal government, and nonprofit organizations.

ENGAGING EMPLOYEES: CREATING AN EFFECTIVE WORK ENVIRONMENT
Friday, July 18 | 9 a.m. until noon

  • This workshop focuses on the key elements of engagement for front-line supervisors and managers. Participants will develop an understanding of the elements of the strategic relationship chain—building leader effectiveness, employee engagement, customer satisfaction, and alignment with business results. They will also explore types of engagement and practical engagement actions, tools and models to increase participation (connecting the dots), ending with individual action planning suitable for immediate workplace implementation.

COACHING & DEVELOPING EMPLOYEES
Friday, July 18 | 1 to 4 p.m.

  • A hands-on workshop covering important topics like: Identifying the positive attributes of an effective coach, developing effective coaching habits, creating an environment that fosters coaching, planning for impact in coaching sessions, employing strategic questioning and active listening techniques to improve communications, using the SBI format to frame communication gaps, and application planning with the EDGE model and the PDCA engagement model. Participants will develop individual action plans for next-day implementation.

The cost for each program is $135. A 20 percent discount is available when three or more individuals from the same organization register.

The workshops will be held in CC Room 176, located in the Arvin Center for Graduate Business Education at 4601 Central Avenue near Columbus Municipal Airport.

The university also offers noncredit training taught in company workplaces.
