Bachelor of General Studies (B.G.S.) Requirements -120 total credit hours

• 36 credit hours in arts and sciences
• 12 credit hours in Arts and Humanities
• 12 credit hours in Sciences and Mathematics
• 12 credit hours in Social and Behavioral Sciences
• 18 additional credit hours in one of the three above areas (concentration)
• 15 additional credit hours in arts and sciences electives
• 51 credit hours in free electives
• a minimum of 30 upper-level (300-400 level) credit hours
• not more than 21 credit hours in a single arts and sciences department/subject or 30 credit hours in a single professional school
• competency courses in
• Written Communication (2 courses)
• Verbal Communication
• Quantitative Reasoning
• Computer Literacy
• Diversity

Courses used to meet competency credit must be a minimum of 3 credit hours and students must earn a grade of “C” (2.0) or better in each course.

Additional Degree Requirements

• Minimum of 30 hours of Indiana University credit required. (Note: a maximum of 64 credits from a community college may be applied to the BGS.)
• Minimum of 20 credit hours earned after admission to the General Studies Degree Program.
• 2.0 cumulative IU grade point average and a 2.0 average in all courses completed after admission to the general studies degree program.
