Logging in, Username, Passphrase
- Logging onto computers in the Learning Center, you must type in:
- Username: ads\yourusername
- Passphrase: yourpassphrase
-
If you forget your passphrase, you can go to passphrase.iu.edu and click
on the link “go here to reset your passphrase”. This may save you a trip to the IT
office and can be done anywhere you have a connection to the internet.
-
If you cannot reset your passphrase here, you will need to come to the IT office.
Bring a photo ID with your birth date on it (i.e. drivers license).
Hardware
-
USB drives (thumb drives or flash drives) are great for moving files to and from school.
We recommend that you use something else for a permanent form of storage. Oncourse offers
online storage or a personal computer would be a great option as well.
-
Opening a file from a USB drive and then saving back to the same file has been known to
cause issues, including the loss of the file itself. It is recommended that you save to
another filename if you are going to open the file off of your USB drive.
Software
-
You can go to iuware.iu.edu to download and install software available to IU
Students (i.e. Microsoft Office 2007, Adobe Design and Production suites, Symantec
Antivirus and more)
-
We recommend not saving files on the campus computers. If you log off of them, the
files will be erased and cannot be recovered.
-
DO NOT use File sharing software (such as Kazaa and Bearshare) on campus. You will
be fined and a block will be put on your account.
Printing
- You have a quota of 650 pages per semester.
- If you quota runs out, you will not be able to print again until you add money to your account. You will not be automatically billed.
- You can add to your print quota at the Library front desk.
- Personal computers cannot print to printers on campus. You must use a campus computer to print.
Wireless / Connecting Personal Computers
-
When connecting computers or other devices to the wireless network, use IU Secure.
If you are having issues connecting to the network, you can stop by the Library to
pick up a set up guide or you can go to the IT office and someone can assist you.
-
Wireless is the ONLY way to connect personal computers and devices to the IU network.
Computers are not allowed to be connected to the network through a network cable or
available network port. Violations can result in loss of computing privileges on campus.
