Biographical Statement Trained in composition and rhetoric, I integrate multi-modal writing and technology in my teaching and research. Writing is no longer limited to linear alphanumeric books and flat texts. Rather, effective rhetorical writing entails a postmodern pastiche of technological and cultural applications such as graphics, song lyrics, creative writing, technical graphics, cultural studies, interactive linkages, social networking, blogs, videos, and more. I examine how these multimodal forms are incorporated into writing in business communication, technical documents, composition, and cross-disciplinary texts. Administrative and Service Responsibilities I am an appointed member to the IUPUI University Program and Review Assessment Committee (PRAC 2008-2012. Also at IUPUC, I am chairperson of the IUPUC Budgetary Affairs Committee and member of the IUPUI Budgetary Affairs Committee. Research Activities I am currently co-editing a collection on ePortfolios in the workplace with Dr. Rich Rice of Texas Tech University. Also, I am preparing several articles that research gaps in composition and rhetoric related to assessment and effectiveness of teaching with technology and multi-modal literacy. I am in dialogue with technology and writing theorists such as Richard and Cindy Selfe. These theorists, along with past-president of the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE), Kathleen Yancey, employ a wide variety of multi-modal media in their research and teaching. Most of my research incorporates technology and/or multimedia features including CDs, music studies, digital poetry, podcasts, online teaching, SKYPE, ePortfolios, blogs, and social networking. Civic Engagement I have represented IUPUC as the President of the Columbus Area Arts Council in 2009 after serving four years as a board member. I attend and present at creative readings with my students and at public venues in Columbus, IN, and regionally. I was nominated by IUPUC Division of Liberal Arts as its representative to the Indiana Humanities Council. I have been interviewed by The Republic newspaper (Columbus, Indiana) and ArtsIndiana on a variety of topics.
