Computer Help

For general computer help, users should contact the campus Information Technology department:

The computers available for use in the IUPUC Library are open to anyone with a library card (for more information on Library Computer Guest IDs, please see the library's computer policy page). Priority will be given to people working on academic assignments.

You will be prompted for a username and password/passphrase to access many electronic resources at the IUPUC Library. This authentication permits our system to recognize users as being affiliated with IUPUC and authorized to use its resources remotely (from off-campus computers).

Your Network ID consists of your username and password/passphrase-normally the same credentials you use to log into your IUPUC campus email. For more information, go to the UITS Support Center's Accounts and Passwords page.

If you're having difficulties gaining access to our electronic resources, first check the Frequently Asked Questions below. The most common solution for off-campus access problems is installing a VPN on your computer. If these do not answer your questions, please use the Ask A Librarian form at the bottom of this page and include the following information:

  • Your username (NEVER reveal your password or student ID/Social Security number)
  • Whether you are trying to gain access from home or work
  • Which resource you are trying to access
  • Any error messages you have received

Common Problems with Remote Access to IUPUC Library Electronic Resources:

Q. What is a VPN and how do I use it to access the Library's resources?

A. A Virtual Private Network (VPN) allows you to temporarily create or join a private network across an existing public network. It does so by creating an encrypted tunnel between two hosts while the connection is needed. This tunnel allows you to transfer information and access remote resources securely. View the procedures for establishing a VPN connection for remote and wireless access.

Q. I typed in my username and password correctly, just like when I check my campus email, but I still can't get into the databases I need.

A. Your Network ID must indicate your IUPUC campus affiliation. If you know that your username and password are valid, but are still denied access, please contact the campus Support Center to verify or establish IUPUC campus affiliation.

ALSO CHECK...

A. Your web browser needs to be configured to accept cookies from the Library sites www.ulib.iupui.edu and proxy.ulib.iupui.edu. For more information on how to control the use of cookies on your browser, visit the Indiana University Knowledge Base article on cookies.

Q. I checked out a Guest computer ID from the Library Circulation Desk, but I can't use it from home.

A. Use of IUPUC Library Guest Computer IDs is limited to the public workstations in the library building. They are not valid anywhere else on the IUPUC campus or for remote (off-campus) access. For more information about obtaining a Guest Computer ID, please see the computer policy page.

Q. Whenever I try to access the Library's electronic resources from my (off-campus) computer at work, I can't get through.

A. Your computer may be behind a firewall, a system designed to prevent unauthorized access to or from a private network. If you are having trouble accessing the IUPUC Library's resources from behind a corporate firewall, contact your corporate technical support, or attempt to log in from another location.

Email your question to a librarian
