Hello Possums!
Mark your calendar for the Possum Trot Bicycle Boogie on Saturday, October 11, 2008! The autumn scenery is fantastic.
Starting on the bike paths of the Columbus People Trail system, this Must-Do ride takes you to Must-See sites
throughout Bartholomew and Brown counties, including Mill Race Park, Pike’s Peak, Becks Grove, New Bellsville,
Grandview Lake, Harrison Lake, Wolf Creek, the Driftwood River, and downtown Columbus’ world-renowned architecture.
Possum Offerings
Choose from our leisurely (and relatively flat) 13-mile Family Possum Tour, a very scenic and safe course which
meanders along the People Trails. For the more adventurous, we offer the invigorating Li’L Possum Tour, a
30-mile tour with just enough hills to get your heart rate up. The Mama Possum Tour is a challenging 45-mile
tour with more great scenery. Our ultimate 65-mile Papa Possum Tour has more thrills (and hills) than a day
at the amusement park! The courses are all designed with your safe cycling in mind.
Start/Finish at IUPUC
Your Possum Trot adventure begins at the spectacular Columbus Learning Center on the campus of Indiana
University-Purdue University Columbus (IUPUC). It’s the home of both Hoosiers and Boilermakers and IUPUC’s
unofficial marsupial mascot. Registration is open from 9 to 11 a.m., and riders may start anytime after
registering. Your ride also ends at IUPUC, where you’ll enjoy great Possum grub and live music.
Possum Grub
Feel the vibe by starting your day with coffee, hot chocolate, and muffins courtesy of Starbucks. Possums
are omnivorous, and you can be too! Enjoy fresh fruit, sports drinks, granola bars, and much more at our
SAG stops. Lunch from Cooks & Company and the IUPUC Café promises to (cue deep voice) "fill you up right."
The grand finale… an assortment of delicious pies (excluding possum pie) from Ahlemeyer’s.
Perky Possum Volunteers
The Possum Trot is known for the friendliest, perkiest volunteers around (and it’s not just because of the
Starbucks coffee). Our volunteers go out of their way to provide a wonderful riding experience for you with
great food, well-marked routes, and emergency SAG service.
Possum with a Purpose!
Possum Trot proceeds benefit the IUPUC Alumni Association Scholarship Program, which supports hardworking,
deserving students pursuing an Indiana University or Purdue University degree at IUPUC. Ten scholarships
were awarded for the 2006-07 academic year.
Bicycle Safety Rodeo
Officers from the Columbus Police Department will help youngsters through a bicycle inspection and then
through various stations on the rodeo. The hands-on program will help kids learn bicycle safety techniques.
Participants will need their own bike and helmet and must be accompanied by an adult. Prizes will be awarded.
The rodeo is free, and kids 12 and under can participate anytime between 9 and 11 a.m.
Make it a Possum Weekend
