Important Scholarship News
Scholarships
IUPUC has long awarded scholarships to both incoming freshman and to continuing students in
recognition of academic achievement, leadership, and more recently, community service. The
scholarships for freshmen are predominantly performance-based scholarships.

Scholarship Tips
- Start early! Be persistent. Good grades, achievements, and community service are rewarded.
- Type your application and essay, unless it requires handwriting.
- Be sure to use correct grammar and spell all words correctly.
- If the application calls for a report cover, use one. If it does not, do not use one. It will only be thrown away when the receptionist opens the mail and photocopies the application for the selection committee.
- Double check all your materials before you send it to the donor/sponsor. Make sure you enclose applications, transcripts, resume, or any additional documentation.
- Read the instructions very carefully before you begin, and when you are finished. Many students in their rush to finish forget to include key items. This is natural selection. Your application will be thrown out.
- Regard this as a long distance job interview. If you spill coffee on your suit, it will not make a good first impression. Neither will spilling coffee on your application.
- If you send the application by fax, follow up to ensure it was received in its entirety. Sometimes the transmission does not go through, or the receiving end ran out of paper, or some other contingency that will jeopardize your chances if you do not follow up.
- If you are applying at the last minute, be sure your application will be received by the deadline call to see where to drop off the application or fax it. Follow up to ensure it arrived. Sometimes simply taking this extra step will demonstrate your seriousness with the details.
- Do not call and make a nuisance trying to find out if you have received the scholarship. The committee or agency employees will only be annoyed by the interruptions and will not remember you kindly.
- Do remember to thank the donors, especially if you did receive the scholarship. Many people give money and time for scholarships out of the goodness of their hearts and wish to help others. Others donate their time to organizing and selections.
It is very important to acknowledge their efforts with a thank you letter or note. If it is a renewable award, this is especially important. When you graduate, be sure to keep the committee informed of your whereabouts and successes, as it will help them raise money for students who follow in your footsteps.
- Keep files on all scholarships in which you have applied.
