Student internships
As a mechanical engineering student in the IUPUI program at IUPUC, you can pursue internships with top local and regional employers specializing in advanced automotive manufacturing and other industries.
The real-world experience you will gain during an internship will bring the theories, concepts, and lessons you learn in the classroom to life. Among the skills mechanical engineering interns learn are how to work in technical groups, develop good communication and collaboration skills, statistically analyze experimental and computational data, write and interpret technical reports, present and explain data graphically, and implement design work and engineering analyses.
In addition to being an excellent resume-builder, internships are usually paid and often lead to part-time employment before you graduate. They can also yield opportunities for full-time employment after graduation.
Internships are not limited to the summer months—you can complete internships in the summer, spring, or fall semesters. Although not currently required, most mechanical engineering students complete internships during their junior and senior years.
