Transfer Student: Step 1

  • Know your deadlines

Apply for admission as early as possible. Applications are processed as they are received. Please allow three weeks for processing after all materials are submitted.

For priority admission consideration, please submit your application and all transcripts by these dates:

    • Fall semester: July 15
    • Spring semester: December 15
    • Summer session I: April 1
    • Summer session II: May 15
  • Review our admission standards

We pay particular attention to grade trends, your cumulative and most recent term grade point averages (GPA), and the breadth and depth of your previous college program. It’s also important that you have maintained good standing with your previous institution.

    Grade trends

If your grades are consistently above average or show steady improvement in a challenging academic program, you’re the kind of transfer applicant we are looking for! Declining grades, grades below C in the most recent term, or a less demanding academic program are often factors that make an application less competitive and can be reasons to deny admission.

    Cumulative grade point average (GPA)

Indiana residents should have a minimum college cumulative GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0-point scale before applying.

Nonresidents should have a minimum college cumulative GPA of 2.0.

    High school record

Your high school transcript and test scores will be reviewed as part of the admission process if you have completed fewer than 26 semester hours (or 39 quarter hours) of college coursework. In general, if your high school record does not meet our freshman admission standards, you will not be considered for admission as a transfer student until you have completed at least 26 semester hours (or 39 quarter hours) of transferable academic work at another institution.

  • Research the majors

Before you apply, make sure you spend some time exploring our different academic divisions and majors.

When you fill out your application, you’ll be asked to choose an intended major. If you know what you’d like to major in, select that major.

If you don’t know what major you’re interested in, that’s ok. Students who have not yet chosen a major are considered exploratory students. It’s fine to spend some time discovering the path that’s right for you.
