Other Types of Aid

You may also be eligible for:

You may be eligible for a federal Pell Grant to help pay your tuition and educational expenses. Unlike loans, grants do not have to be repaid.

Pell Grants are awarded only to undergraduate students who have not yet earned a bachelor’s degree and are based on financial need. If you already have a bachelor’s or professional degree, or if you are incarcerated in a federal or state penal institution, you are not eligible.

To be considered for a Pell Grant, you must:

  1. Meet requirements (i.e., show that you are a U.S. citizen or an eligible noncitizen)
  2. Complete and submit the FAFSA
  3. Be an undergraduate enrolled in a degree-seeking program at IUPUC
  4. Meet satisfactory academic progress standards

Award Amounts

Once you complete and submit the FAFSA, we will review your information. The amount you are awarded depends on:
  • Your financial need
  • Cost of attendance (COA)
  • Enrollment status* as a part-time or full-time student

*Enrollment levels are determined based on projected or actual enrollment. Your Pell Grant eligibility is determined and awards are finalized each semester on a Pell census date corresponding to the end of the IUPUC 100 percent refund period. If your enrollment decreases or changes from the time your Pell was determined, you could owe part of your Pell back to IUPUC.

The maximum amount of Pell Grant awards changes annually. If you are eligible, you’ll receive the full amount for which you qualify. The grant will be disbursed to you by IUPUC.

The amount of any other aid for which you might quality does not affect the amount of your Pell Grant.

If your parent or guardian died while on active military duty in Iraq or Afghanistan, you may be eligible for additional grant funds, if at the time of their death you were:

  • Less than 24 years of age
  • Enrolled at IUPUC or another institution at least part time

As of July 1, 2012, you may receive Pell Grants for no more than 12 semesters. You will be notified if you are close to this limit. Learn how Pell Grant Lifetime Eligibility Used (LEU) is calculated.
