The U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Federal Student Aid determines thefinancial aid eligibility of non-U.S. citizens.

If you are not a U.S. citizen but are a permanent resident with a green card, you may be eligible for financial aid.

Eligibility Criteria

You are an eligible noncitizen if you are a:

If you meet these criteria, the first step toward receiving aid is to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid or FAFSA.

There may also be other aid, like scholarships through your country’s U.S. embassy or consulate, for which you are eligible. Explore Education USA and Career InfoNet Web sites for information.
