Academic Plan

We understand the cost of earning a bachelor’s degree may be a concern, so we have developed an academic plan to help you stay on track so you will graduate on time and within your budget.

Our four-year academic plan for BSN students outlines a path for completing the BSN degree requirements in four years. If you have already completed courses toward other majors, if you are a transfer or part-time student, or if you are required to enroll in developmental coursework (i.e., English composition, math, and/or chemistry), you may need more than four years to finish the BSN degree.

Application

Applications are available online annually early spring semester. The deadline for application will be listed in spring and applicants are notified of their status by June 1.

Please note that satisfying these requirements does NOT automatically guarantee admission to the BSN program. You must have 29–31 university credit hours and have completed these courses or their equivalents:

  • BIOL-N 261, Human Anatomy
  • BIOL-N 217, Physiology
  • COMM-R 110, Fundamentals of Speech Communication
  • ENG-W 131, Reading, Writing, and Inquiry I
  • MATH-M 118, Finite Math, MATH-153, MATH-154, STAT-301
  • NURS-A 100, Drug Dosage Calculations
  • NURS-B 104, Power Up! Strategies for Academic Success
  • PSY-B 110, Introductory Psychology
  • SOC-R 100, Introductory Sociology

The science, math, and drug dosage calculation GPA is 50 percent of the admission score, while the general education GPA is weighted at 20 percent of the admission score. The healthcare work experience is weighted at 10 percent of the admission score. The most recent Test Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) score is converted into a GPA that accounts for the remaining 20 percent of the admissions score.

The TEAS Test will count for 20 percent of your admission score. Your exam scores are valid for two years from the date you completed the test. Your TEAS score must be submitted to the IU School of Nursing three days prior to the application deadline.

You may take the TEAS no more than two times in the two years prior to application submission. If you have taken the exam more than twice in the prior two years, only the first two score sets will be considered. If the exam has been taken more than one time, the most recent composite score will be used for admission.
