Why earn a minor in biology?

You can earn a minor in biology at IU Columbus to complement your major area of study, such as a sociology, nursing, education, or communication studies degree program.

Although most employers are more interested in your college major than any minor you may have earned, do not discount the potential edge in a competitive job market that a well-selected academic minor can provide. In some cases, having a biology minor could make a prospective employer choose you over another qualified candidate competing for the same position.

I would say that there is probably nothing more important as part of the education of students at Indiana University than the international engagement aspect of their education.

How to earn a biology minor?

The undergraduate minor in biology requires a minimum of 19 credit hours of biology courses. A grade of C- or above is required for all biology courses and a minimum GPA of 2.00 is required for the complete minor program.

  • BIOL-K 322 Genetics and Molecular Biology (3 cr.)
  • BIOL-K 324 Cell Biology (3 cr.)
  • BIOL-K 341 Principles of Ecology and Evolution (3 cr.)

Transfer credit

You may apply biology credits for classes taken at other institutions toward this minor, but must earn a minimum of 10 credit hours toward the total required at IU Columbus. Credits from correspondence courses are not accepted for this minor.
