Honors Program Requirements

The requirements to graduate from the Honors Program include:

  • You must complete at least 24 credit hours of honors work.
  • You must maintain a cumulative 3.3 or higher IU GPA AND a 3.3 GPA in your honors coursework . If you fall below this level, you will be notified and advised accordingly.
  • If your GPA persists at a level below 3.3, academic honors probation will be instituted and participation in the program will be revoked.
  • You must stay current with honors credits and complete at least three hours of honors credits each semester.

After successfully completing honors requirements for a course(s), your work will be noted on your official academic transcript. When you graduate, you will also be eligible to wear a special cord with your cap and gown signifying you are an honors student.

Honors Contract

For each honors-level course you wish to pursue, you will work with an approved faculty member to develop an honors contract.

An honors contract might include, but is not limited to, activities like:
  • An independent project employing the research methods taught in a course
  • A paper whose references are the primary sources addressed in a course text
  • Presenting your independent project or research results to your class or another campus group
  • Designing and completing a special project, performance, or product
