September 23, 2014

Professionals who seek noncredit management development opportunities are invited to register for a full day workshop offered by the Center for Business and Economic Development (CBED) at Indiana University-Purdue University Columbus.

Project Management
Tuesday, October 28 // 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Whether your job involves procurement, accounting, safety, employee development, IT or engineering, you are probably involved in managing projects to one degree or another.

This workshop is designed to equip project leaders with the essential tools they need to successfully manage projects regardless of their business function or position within their organization. This hands-on workshop covers the professional tools and strategies needed to define and document project requirements, attain buy-in from project stakeholders, delegate tasks, create milestones, monitor progress and close projects on time and within budget.

Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Describe and incorporate a project charter that clearly defines the project
  • Develop a stakeholder analysis, project roles and responsibilities, and develop a plan of communication that increases stakeholder support and buy-in
  • Devise a “Work Breakdown Structure” to divide a large project into more manageable pieces and determine project life cycles
  • Create a project plan to establish milestones for project monitoring and progress
  • Identify and avoid common project management problems

The facilitator for this workshop is Dr. Jon Padfield, President of Proffer Brainchild Inc., a training and consulting company that focuses on quality and process improvements. Padfield has taught quality and productivity classes in eight countries and across four continents. He has taught and consulted in a wide variety of industries including automotive, medical devices, healthcare, security products, aviation, and defense.

Prior to starting his own business, Padfield’s career included over 22 years in the automotive and medical device industries where he held positions in R&D, product design, field support, quality management, continuous improvement, and global supply chain management.

The cost for this workshop is $150. A group discount of 20 percent is applied when three or more individuals from the same organization register. Additionally, lunch is included in the price for individuals attending both workshops.

The courses will be held in CC Room 170, located in the Arvin Center for Graduate Business Education at 4601 Central Avenue near the Columbus Municipal Airport.
