$1,000 creative writing contest for fall scholarship begins January 19

January 12, 2015

Incoming full-time students who will attend Indiana University-Purdue University Columbus (IUPUC) this fall are encouraged to enter a creative writing contest that begins Jan. 19.

The winner of the Robert G. Traylor scholarship will receive $1,000 good toward tuition at IUPUC for the 2015-16 fall semester.

To be eligible, contestants must:

  • Be incoming or currently enrolled full-time students who will take at least nine (9) credit hours at IUPUC
  • Complete the entire fall semester to receive the funds
  • Submit 15 to 30 pages of original writing in a Microsoft Word file that meets the contest guidelines before 5 p.m. on Feb. 27, 2015

“Contestants can enter their creative writing in genres and formats such as fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, short story, and novel excerpt, among others,” explains Dr. Katherine Wills, associate professor of English and coordinator of IUPUC’s English program.

Sherry Traylor is a graduate of the IUPUC program. She established the Robert G. Traylor scholarship to assist IUPUC students in meeting their literary career objectives and to honor the legacy of her father. A panel of judges will consider contest entries between February 27 and March 23, 2015. Restrictions apply to final scholarship receipt.

Complete contest guidelines, due dates, and other information can be found at iupuc.edu/donor-scholarships or by contacting Vicki Kruse, senior administrative secretary, at vikruse@iupuc.edu or 812.348.7393.
