The IUPUC Cross Country Team competes at Wilmington College in Ohio

October 18, 2016

The Indiana University-Purdue University Columbus (IUPUC) cross country team participated in the 2016 Jenna Strong Fall Classic cross country meet last Friday, October 14, at 4:30 p.m. at Wilmington College in Ohio. Five of our seven IUPUC runners participated and were successful in meeting their goal of finishing well in the meet. The Wilmington College event hosts a significant number of participants, consisting of 399 runners in the men’s division and 367 in the women’s division in this year’s cross country meet.

Congratulations to Samantha Shell, Cody Holman, Hogan Petro, Bryan McGaha, and Ira Ulmer for their participation and success in the Jenna Strong Fall Classic meet!

Annually, the IUPUC cross country team competes in three to four meets in Indiana, plus the competition in Wilmington, Ohio.  IUPUC is not categorized as a regional campus within Indiana University. Because of this, sports teams are considered sports clubs instead of varsity teams; IUPUC sports clubs can compete as a club with other colleges and universities, not just clubs. Cross country was established at IUPUC in 2012. Student members appreciate there is no cost in club participation.

Class schedules for runners determine practice times, which occur one or two times each week.

  • Practices this year are on Tuesdays at 4 p.m. and Thursdays at 6 p.m. and meet at the Globe
  • Cross country is open to all full-time OR part-time students at IUPUC
  • The club consists of all levels of ability

The IUPUC cross-country team has a goal and mission to introduce the sport to the campus while getting the name Indiana University-Purdue University Columbus (IUPUC) known whenever and where ever they compete.
