Undergraduate Summer and Online Courses Discounted 25 Percent

April 3, 2012

Indiana University is making a world-class education even more affordable this summer with a 25 percent tuition discount on all undergraduate courses, including those at Indiana University-Purdue University Columbus (IUPUC).

According to Gary Felsten, interim associate dean for academic affairs, undergraduate students at IUPUC are eligible for the discount, which applies toward both courses taught on campus and online courses.

“The initiative will make an IU education more affordable, reduce the length of time it takes many students to earn a degree, and make greater use of university facilities,” Felsten said. “For those who take a full course load this summer, tuition savings will average about $1,000.”

Students from other universities and colleges are also eligible for the discount and the credits will transfer to their home campus, Felsten added.

Registration for both summer sessions is now open. Students can choose from more than 85 online summer classes and hundreds of on-campus courses.

  • Summer Session I classes begin Wednesday, May 9
  • Summer Session II classes begin Monday, June 25

The discount applies to summer courses on all eight IU campuses and was announced by IU President Michael McRobbie last fall.  It applies to Indiana resident undergraduates; nonresident undergraduates will receive an equivalent dollar reduction in their tuition.

The IU Board of Trustees approved the discount in an effort to promote year-round college attendance. Summer enrollments for IU have remained relatively constant for the past ten years, with about 43,000 individual students taking at least one summer class in 2011. That number represents less than 40 percent of IU’s total student population.
