The Division of Business announced today it will begin offering a concentration in Supply Chain Management as part of the Bachelor of Science degree in Business, starting with the Fall 2020 semester.

Assistant Professor of Management, Dr. Jon Padfield, has been designated as the lead faculty for the new concentration which covers the body of knowledge needed to begin a career in the increasingly critical field of global Supply Chain Management (SCM).  Students who complete this program will gain insights into the full range of SCM activities including sourcing, logistics (transportation and warehousing), operations, forecasting, scheduling, inventory management, quality management, supplier development, and product life cycle management.

“As a former Global Supply Chain Manager for Hill-Rom, I’m very excited to be able to help students prepare to enter the field of Supply Chain Management,” said Padfield. “This was already a good paying, high demand career option, but it was largely a behind the scenes job until COVID-19 hit.  Now, all of a sudden people are talking about where products come from and why there are shortages in everything from toilet paper to hand sanitizer to frozen pizzas.”

Padfield spent 13 years working in competitive analysis, R&D, technology development, and new product development in the automotive industry. In addition to teaching, he currently provides consulting, training, and mentoring services to organizations committed to turning their data, people and processes into competitive advantages.

The new concentration in Supply Chain Management is added to the current offerings including Accounting, Finance, Health Services Administration, Innovation Management, Management, and Marketing.
