What is the 21st Century Scholarship?

Earning the 21st Century Scholarship provides students up to four years of undergraduate tuition* at any participating public college or university in Indiana. If you attend a private college, the state will award an amount comparable to that of a four-year public college. If you attend a participating proprietary (for-profit) school, the state will award a tuition scholarship equal to that of Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana.

As a 21st Century Scholar, not only do you earn a scholarship, you get step-by-step help to make sure you succeed in college. Additionally, 21st Century Scholars receive support throughout college until their degree completion.

*The scholarship amount may be reduced depending on the availability of funds and the ability of the student's family to contribute to college.

Scholarship Facts

  • Over 40,000 low-income students have earned a college degree with a 21st Century Scholarship.
  • Nearly 100,000 Hoosiers are enrolled in the program today.
  • 86% of scholars enrolled in the program go to college, compared to the state’s average of 63%.

How do I maintain my scholarship?

  • Complete at least 30 credits each academic year.
  • Maintain full-time status (12+ credits per-semester).
  • Earn Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) as determined by your college. SAP usually includes a minimum grade point average (GPA) per semester, as well as a limit on incomplete and withdrawals from courses. If you have questions about SAP at IU Columbus contact our financial aid office.
  • File a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by Indiana’s April 15th deadline every year. The application opens on October 1st.
