One of the fundamental—and most diverse—engineering disciplines, mechanical engineering equips you to make a difference on the smallest micro-scale level, as well as in large, complex systems. Each day, mechanical engineering principles are used in the conception, design, development, and manufacture of almost every product or process known to man.
The Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) degree is an IUPUI program that grants a Purdue University degree. All courses required for this degree can be completed on the IUPUC campus.
State-of-the art classrooms, engineering software, experimental laboratories and facilities in the Advanced Manufacturing Center of Excellence (AMCE)
Access to a unique precision measurement and metrology laboratory
A high-performance computational analysis simulation and engineering laboratory (CASEL) that is integrated into the engineering curriculum for undergraduate research and design courses
Outstanding faculty with PhDs and significant industry experience in addition to academic advisors who are committed to knowing you personally and helping you achieve your academic goals
Assistance with networking, paid internships, and job placement through our close relationships with regional engineering companies and partners
Several engineering scholarships are available to support engineering students pursuing their undergraduate degrees
A small, beautiful campus with small class sizes dedicated to your personal attention, education, and progress through graduation
As a graduate of the mechanical engineering program, you will:
Meet or exceed the expectations of your employer
Pursue advanced study if desired
Assume leadership roles in your profession and/or community
Upon completion of the BS degree, ME students will have attained:
An ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics
An ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors
An ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences
An ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts
An ability to function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives
An ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions
An ability to acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies.
As a graduate of the BSME program, you will be prepared to work in a variety of diverse fields, including:
Propulsion and power generation
Testing and field engineering
Technical sales and marketing
New product research and development
Consulting and forensic engineering
Design and process engineering
Manufacturing and applications engineering
Engineering project and program management
Technical executives and chief technology officers
New business entrepreneurs
