Reinstatement Policies

Each division at IUPUC has its own policies and procedures regarding reinstatement, as well as a division-specific form for reinstatement. Please contact your division directly for more information.

If you are dismissed from the university, you will be informed in writing by the division head or the division head’s representative.

Academic Dismissal for Beginning Students

If you are a beginning student or a transfer student attempting 12 or more credit hours (including Ws), you must earn at least a 1.0 GPA at the end of your first semester or you will be dismissed. This policy also applies if your first semester is during the summer, taking 12 credit hours combined over both sessions. If you withdraw from all courses, you are exempt from this policy.

  • If it is your first dismissal, you must sit out for a minimum of one fall or one spring semester before being eligible to petition for reinstatement.
  • If you are dismissed two or more times, you must remain sit out for at least two consecutive (fall and spring or spring and fall) semesters before being eligible to petition for reinstatement.
  • Your petition must be received the established deadlines to be considered for reinstatement. Reinstatement is not automatic.

Academic Dismissal for Continuing or Returning Students

Factors considered when continuing or returning students are dismissed include: failure to maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0 after being placed on probation, not making satisfactory academic progress toward the degree requirements, or a lack of acceptable ethical or professional behavior.

If you have completed a minimum of 12 IUPUC/IUPUI grade point average (GPA) credit hours, you are subject to dismissal if you fail to attain an overall GPA of at least 2.0. Consult with your academic advisor or division for details about that division’s policy.
