IU Columbus professor appointed to Council for People with Disabilities
Feb. 20, 2024
Last month, Indiana Governor Eric J. Holcomb announced several appointments to state boards and commissions, which included IU Columbus professor Kevin McCracken joining the Governor’s Council for People with Disabilities.
McCracken has more than 25 years of experience working in mental health and serving those with disabilities.
He spent 16 years in community mental health services before joining Indiana University full time in 2011. In his previous role at IU, McCracken served as the Director of IUPUI's Adaptive Educational Services, the student disability services office for IU students on the Indianapolis, Columbus, and Ft. Wayne campuses, as well as the IU School of Medicine students at nine statewide locations. In fall 2023, he joined IU Columbus as Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychology and Mental Health Counseling, as well as Director of Clinical Training for the Mental Health Counseling graduate program.
McCracken will serve on the Governor’s Council for People with Disabilities through Dec. 31, 2026. He looks forward to being part of this independent state agency, which provides council for decision makers, and gathers information from and advocates for people with disabilities.
The council website states, “Our mission is to support the independence and inclusion of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) in all aspects of society. This mission is accomplished through planning, evaluation, collaboration, education, research, and advocacy.”
