The second-year cohort of Mental Health Counseling (MHC) graduate students is now available to provide counseling for anyone in the AirPark Campus community, as well as the surrounding areas.
MHC Program Director Darrin Carr encourages students who are considering getting some help to request their services—and don’t delay. “Don’t wait until finals week! If you are struggling or are anticipating major stresses or big life changes, it’s best to start counseling now so you’re equipped with a plan and strategies for managing finals, graduation, entering the work force, and beyond.”
Just click here to request services at the Schoellkopf Center—which provides a professional clinical setting, right on campus—it’s located just up the stairs from the main entrance of the Campus Center building.
“It’s truly a no-judgement zone,” emphasized Nettie Miller, one of the MHC interns.
Jennifer Barbercheck, another intern who sees clients at the Schoellkopf Center, added, “We can relate to the stress of finals week, we’re just like you!”
Speaking with the cohort, the interns said they often work with students who are experiencing depression, anxiety, and stress. Additionally, they can help with time management, questions about academic success, and talking through what you want to do with your life.
Beyond the scope of school, they can provide support with issues such as grief and substance use. Plus, they can connect you with campus and community resources for ongoing assistance if your concern is outside the graduate students’ expertise.
MHC students receive practical field experience while their clients enjoy free counseling services that are close by and convenient. All services are confidential as allowed by law. Note that as a training clinic, all services at the Schoellkopf Center are recorded and/or observed by licensed clinicians, practicum students, and/or student interns for training purposes.
